'Mahayagya' for early construction
Last week a 'Mahayagya' was performed in Dehradun for early construction of a temple at disputed Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid site in Ayodhya by a RSS-backed organisation Hanumat Shakti Jagran Samiti. Mahayagyas are being performed at around 8,000 centres across the country and at 71 places in Uttarakhand, RSS sources said here. Thousands of people gathered at parade ground here and took resolve for early construction of Ram temple by offering "Aahuti" in the 'Yagna', which was attended by several VHP and RSS leaders, they added.

Accidents at dam site, two killed
Two persons were killed while working at an under-construction Koteshwar Dam of the Tehri Hydel Project in Uttarakhand. Prem Das, a CISF Sub-Inspector, was killed and a woman constable of the force injured when they were hit by a truck at the construction site, police said. In another accident, Kamlesh, a labourer hailing from Rajasthan, was killed when he slipped and fell into a pond. The body had been sent for post mortem, police said.

Two cops, undertrial killed
Two policemen and an undertrial were killed and three injured when a jail van carrying them rolled down into a gorge in Almora district of Uttarakhand, police said. The accident happened in Batuli area, they said. The van was carrying prisoners who were being brought to Almora from Champawat in connection with hearing of some court cases, police said. The vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the gorge killing two policemen, including the driver, and an undertrial. A head constable, a constable and an undertrial were injured in the accident, police said.

Tendulkar's family in Mussoorie
Sachin Tendulkar's wife and son have arrived in Mussoorie near here to enjoy the scenic beauty of a picturesque resort. Anjali Tendulkar and son Arjun reached the house of their family friend Sanjay Narang last evening, police sources confirmed. There was no official intimation of their arrival, the sources added, but the Mussoorie police made appropriate security arrangements for them. As the news of their arrival spread, the mediapersons tried to meet them but they maintained a distance from them. Tendulkar and his family are frequent visitors of Mussoorie for the past few years. During their previous visit to the hill station last year, the speculations were rife that Tendulkar had purchased a bunglow in the picturesque resort. However, the administration did not confirm the news.

Youth held with 1.5 kg charas
A youth was arrested with 1.5 kg charas in Uttarakhand's Almora district today, police said. The man, in his late 20's, was arrested at Kwarab area when he was to board a bus to Haldwani town to sell the narcotics, they said. A case has been registered against the youth under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
