Shrines to be closed in Nov

Popular Himalayan Hindu shrines in Uttarakhand will be closed for the winters next month, confirmed officials. The temple priests decided to close Kedarnath and Badrinath temples for the public from November 7 and November 18, respectively. Gangotri shrine authorities have also decided to close the temple on Nov. 6. Gangotri, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, is one of the four main Hindu shrines, commonly known as 'Char Dham' that includes Badrinath, Kedarnath and Yamunotri. Badrinath temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is closed for pilgrims during winter every year as the area remains snow-bound during the period, when the worship of Lord Badrinath is done at nearby Joshimath town. Another Himalayan shrine of Rudranath, considered as one of Panchkedars, was closed last week for pilgrims for winters.
