For Earth's sake…

As the world joined hands to celebrate the Earth Day on the 27th March, Haridwar also did its bit. But what is the efficacy of such campaigns and are these occasional programmes enough to make our planet a better place to live? Karuna Verma engages some youngsters as they speak their mind on the issue

More initiatives needed
More such campaigns should be encouraged as they motivate youngsters to be conscious about deteriorating climatic conditions and encourage them to do their bit to preserve environment. The need of the hour is to have more such programmes.

Opt for alternative sources
These awareness programmes act as an alarm clock for the society. As youth, we should take the stride in our hands and vigorously promote such initiatives. The need of the hour is to start preserving our replenishing sources. Alternative sources of energy should also be promoted.

Time to be active
It is the high time that we become cognizant of the rising environmental degradation. Also, we should stop taking nature for granted. Growing natural disasters are an indication that nature is turning hostile. We need to seriously mend our ways and stop wasting resources.

Take small
steps
Such programmes create a keen interest in youngsters to save earth. I feel we should all plant atleast one tree on our birthday and say no to plastic bags. Such small steps can lead us to a green earth. Though we have exploited the nature but still it is not too late to make amends.

Consistency
required
It feels good to be a part of such initiatives. I have been consistently following it from last year. But we should not just stop at saving electricity for one hour only. It should be a consistent endeavour. Wastage should be avoided and resources should be used judiciously.
