Rs 466 lakh for Corbett park

Rs 466 lakh have been sanctioned for platinum jubilee celebration of Jim Corbett National park, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has said.

Presiding over a meeting in this regard recently, Nishank asked the state forest secretary to coordinate with officials of forests and wildlife departments so that the funds could be utilised timely, said an official release here. He also directed the officials to make good arrangements for the platinum jubilee celebration of Corbett park, a home to tigers and several other magnificent wild animals.

Nishank said heads of the states, ambassadors of various nations and other prominent people should be invited for the occasion. Since lakhs of tourists and wildlife lovers are expected to arrive during the celebration, Nishank said, hoardings and boards displaying various information about the state should be put up at various places. He also asked the officials to arrange free of cost visits to the park for schoolchildren and media persons besides organising workshops on tigers at national and international level.

During the meeting, Forest secretary M H Khan said invitation to several prominent personalities including the Indian cricket team captain M S Dhoni, who is a honorary wildlife warden of Corbett park, has already been sent.
