Champs in the making

Haridwar judokas steal the show at the recently concluded district championship:

In the state Judo championship held here at the Vedic Mohan Ashram, Haridwar district champs stole the show with 10 gold medals in different events, while Dehradun district finished runner up with 8 medals. In all 250 judokas from various districts participated in the two-day event. In the 40 kg. weight (boys category), Abhay stood first, Kailash second and Ashish third, while in the 45 kg. weight category Hitesh, Paras and Kishan secured first, second and third positions respectively. In the 50 kg. weight category Gaurav, Aditya and Amandeep clinched the first, the second and the third slots respectively, while in 60 kg. weight category the first rank was bagged by Manoj and Ankur and the second by Arun and Abhijeet.

In the 40 kg. weight (girls category) Tanvi clinched Gold, Nikita silver and Nisha bronze. In the 48 weight category the top laurel was won by Priyanka Negi, followed by Swati and Shilpa at the second and the third ranks. In the 52 kg. weight category Deepa Chaudhary pocketed gold medal, while in the 57 kg. weight category Sunita Bhardwaj won the accolades. The winner of the championship and the runner up will represent the state in the national Judo championship to be held at Bengaluru from November 25. Those present on the occasion included the president of the State Judo Association, S.S. Rana and the general secretary, Yashveer Singh.
