State sets up cabinet committee to popularise Sanskrit:

Uttarakhand government today decided to set up a cabinet committee to suggest ways for promoting Sanskrit in the state. "The committee headed by state education minister would give its recommendations on several points like developing Haridwar and Rishikesh as 'Sanskrit towns' and naming one village each in Garhwal and Kumaon as 'Sanskrit grams'," Principal Secretary (Home) Rajiv Gupta said after a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. "It will also recommend on creating posts of Sanskrit translators in government departments and inscribing name plates of officials and politicians in Sanskrit," he said. The cabinet also decided to set up a Sanskrit Education Council with its headquarters in Dehra Dun for 84 Sanskrit schools and colleges of the state. The council would also arrange for the training of 'Acharyas' and 'Pracharyas'. The state has Sanskrit as second official language Uttarakhand cabinet also withdrew the eligibility of having a B.Ed degree for the promotion to the posts of Lecturer from LT grade, Gupta said.
